Overview of the Department The National Diploma (ND) programme in Estate Management was started in the 2012/2013 academic session under the headship of Arc. Felix A. in the School of Environmental Studies. The department was later headed by Esv. Adesina Omotayo and Mr Adeyemi Steven respectively and now Headed by Mr Odekunmi Olufemi Daniel. The Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Estate Management started in the 2019/2020 academic session PHILOSOPHY The Philosophy of the Estate Management programme is to inculcate the various competencies in the profession in our students as well as information technology, improved techniques of development, the mathematics, and the economics in order to maximize the benefits of ownership and management of landed properties, to both users and investors. It is the aim of the programme to enable every graduate optimize the use of land resources among competing claims, having regard to public good, fair share by current and potential owners of interest in land, and to facilitate economic development. VISION The vision is to achieve an efficient and effective information technology driven economy for rapid and substance economic development. Course Objectives At the end of the programme, the diplomats should be able to exhibit adequate knowledge, skills and technical know-how in the use, development and management of land on the following: - - Inspect, survey and report on land and building for the development and management purpose; - Examine, produce and interpret building plans; - Undertake the preparation, keeping and updating of land records. At the end of the HND programme in Estate Management the diplomats should be able to:- 1. Take measurement of land and buildings. 2. Carry out market surveys and other enquiries on properties. 3. Collect, compile and compute data for valuation purposes. 4. Survey, inspect and report on locational and structural conditions for properties for management, maintenance, repairs and valuation purposes. 5. Inspect state lands and make regular reports. 6. Manage properties for landlord in relation to selection of tenants, service and notices to quit premises, renewal of lease and maintenance of buildings etc. 7. Examine building plans. 8. Assist on the implementation of policies regarding allocation and administration of land resources. 9. Assist in the processing of application for right of occupancy and subsequent transactions. 10. Assist in the registration of title document i.e. C of O, Deeds of Mortgage. Deed of Assignment and subleases. 11. Assist with the public government notices to compulsorily acquire rights of occupancy. 12. Carryout routine control, supervision and occupation of government land and collection of rent and licence fees. 13. Assist in keeping Estate Accounts for clients. Available Modes of Study: Full Time, Part Time, Part Time Evening, ODFeL National Diploma, Higher National Diploma Entry Requirements for ND Programme (a) Four GCE ‘O’ Levels or WASC or SSSC with credit passes in relevant subjects to the programme, i.e., Mathematics and English Language, a basic Science and any other subject from Geography, Economics, Physics, Biology Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Art, Woodwork, Literature, Metalwork, Accounting, Basic Surveying, etc. (b) Four credit passes in relevant subjects obtained at the final examination of an NBTE recognized Pre-liminary – ND programme offered in the Polytechnics or similar Post-secondary Technical Institution on a foundation of four passes relevant to the programme. Entry Requirements for HND Programme (a) all the requirements for admission into the ND programme as state above; (b) a minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA of 2.00 – 2.49) in the ND examination that had two or more years of cognate experience in the specific field may be considered for admission into the HND programme.
